Marjorie Ann Humphreys Johnson, 101 of Nacogdoches, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2019 in Garrison. Graveside services were held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at Cold Springs Cemetery in Garrison with Wayne Butler officiating.
Marjorie was born and raised in Garrison, near Wanders Creek off of FM 95 South. As a young girl, she spent her time learning the ways of life from her mom and others in the family. At the age of 16 years, she was baptized into Christ in Wanders Creek as a member of Cold Springs Baptist Church. After her graduation in 1939 from Garrison High School, she headed to Ft. Worth to live with her brother. While there, she met a dapper young military fellow by the name of Kermit Johnson. The two were smitten on April 26, 1943, they joined their lives together as one, at 1st Methodist Church in Ft. Worth. Kermit was a proud member of the US Military and upon his completion of his service, he took Marjorie and moved to Minnesota where he was employed by General Motors in the Frigidaire Division. The two lived in many different places over the years, including Landsdowne, Pennsylvania and Rochester, New York and Dayton Ohio. Marjorie held several administrative positions during these times, but her most memorable job was being a Key Punch Operator for IBM. Although Marjorie never had children, her niece, Margaret Humphries, became her God-child. Marjorie loved her family and especially her nieces and nephews. They will all remember the years of Marjorie and Kermit visiting from “another world” as they thought. They would always come bearing gifts and driving what seemed like big fancy cars and having wonderful things. These were very special times to the nieces and nephews alike. They absolutely loved the visits from these two. Upon Kermit’s retirement, the he and Marjorie returned to her beloved East Texas. Sadly, after spending 42 years with the love of her life, Marjorie lost Kermit to the horrible disease of cancer. Marjorie, although she was lost without him, continued to do things just as Kermit had taught her. Until the age of 96, she drove herself around, took care of all her own business including her banking and taxes, and remained the lady that she had been all her life. She was also a proud lifetime member of Eastern Star. Marjorie was happiest when surrounded by family, which was her favorite memories. She will forever be remembered for her fabulous cooking and her special little notes and prayers she would leave after reading her bible or something in a book. Although she will be missed, her lifetime of memories, stories, and love of everyone around her will be held forever in the lives of those she leaves behind.
Marjorie is survived by nieces and nephews and other extended family members. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kermit Johnson; 5 brothers, 5 sisters, and her parents, Thomas M. and Cora Lee Barrington Humphreys.
Pallbearers will be Bill Yarbrough, Tom Yarbrough, Keith Yarbrough, Cody Ressler and Casey Yarbrough.
