Ronnie Lee Barton was born on June 29, 1951, in Center, TX to Wiley Barton and Joy Weatherly Barton. He passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025 in Nacogdoches at the age of 73. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 25 at 2 p.m. at Cold Springs Baptist Church in Garrison, with Rev. Eric Barton officiating.
Ronnie was blessed to be raised with a tightknit family of eight siblings and a mother who adored him. A quiet man, he loved to take walks outdoors when he was able, and enjoyed watching westerns, especially Gunsmoke. He relished good food and cold Cokes.
Though Ronnie had lifelong disabilities, he lived life courageously. There is much to be learned looking at Ronnie’s life, about contentment and quietness and looking ahead without complaint about things that can’t be changed.
Pallbearers will be nephews Jimmy Barton, Adam Barton, Tim Barton, Tracy Rucker, Cory Rucker and Jeff Cranford.
Survivors include sister Bobbie Jo Cranford of Garrison; and brothers Don A. Barton and wife Loretta of Garrison; Johnny M. Barton and wife Wilda of Woodville; Roger D. Barton and wife Ireta of Lufkin; and Gary L. Barton and wife Betty of Lufkin; and sister-in-law Joyce Barton of Nacogdoches. Ronnie was also blessed with a multitude of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wiley and Joy Barton; sister Glenda and brother-in-law Jimmy Don Rucker; and brothers Benny Ray Barton and Ed Wayne Barton.
Many kind souls looked after and took care of Ronnie at different points along his 73-year journey, and he and his siblings had particular affection for two long-time caregivers. Rachel Johnson and Shirley Fields were each deeply compassionate and loving in their separate turns caring for Ronnie and the family is eternally grateful for these special friends.
