A Memorial Service for Robert Powers, 79, of Garrison will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Libby Church and will include military honors.
Mr. Powers passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 in Garrison. He was born on April 24, 1944 in Nacogdoches.
Robert Powers was a kind and generous man who loved his family and friends without boundaries. He was a son, brother, father, uncle and friend and was always willing to help whomever needed his hand. He honorably served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was a lifelong, dedicated Garrison Bulldog, something he took very seriously. He loved the small-town life and living in the country surrounded by the beauty that God created. He also kept his generational assignment of taking care of and being involved with Libby Church and Cemetery. More than anything, he enjoyed the time he spent on his tractor as he tended to the animals and worked on his farm. He loved his children and was very proud of them. After tragically losing his daughter, Stephanie, at the young age of 21, he made sure he remained involved in every aspect of Gerrod’s life. He also enjoyed being close to his brother and sister whom he loved dearly. Robert was blessed to have been able to spend the last years of his life with a very special lady. Ruth Langford held a special place in his heart and he was appreciative of the wonderful care she bestowed upon him.
Robert is survived by his son, Gerrod Powers and siblings, Howard Lee Powers and Jeanette Pollard & husband, Dwayne. He was also a devoted uncle to Rocky Powers, Justin Powers, Jessie Powers, Rodney Pollard, Sam Pollard, Robby Pollard and Kasey Mathew.
