Michael Edward “Cotton” Adkison, 68, of Garrison, passed away on Saturday November 30, 2019 in his home. He lost a brave battle to complications of metastatic lung cancer.

He was born April 3, 1951 in Nacogdoches County to Robert Edward “Bill” Adkison and Ozell Pollard Adkison.

Cotton graduated from Garrison High School and attended Panola Junior College.

He was a laborer by trade, and worked for many companies and individuals throughout his life. He also operated a successful power washing business in to his retirement years. He was a hard worker and instilled this ethic into his children, making sure they knew the value of his hard-earned dollar.

Cotton was an avid golfer. He spent much of his adult life coaching several boy baseball and girl softball teams, as well as his daughters and most recently, his granddaughter Mariah, in golf. He enjoyed bonding over sports.

He was a diehard Garrison Bulldog and Lady Bulldog sports fan. Many Friday nights he could be found cheering on the Bulldog Football team.

He enjoyed watching SFA basketball as well, and was a season ticket holder for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Diane Adkison: Daughters Hannah Adkison Powers and husband Rocky of Garrison and Jordan Adkison Gandy and husband Sam of Nacogdoches: Granddaughters Mariah and Sydney Powers and Grandson Reece Powers all of Garrison; sisters Gayle Adkison of Garrison, Judy Stokes and husband Jesse of Garrison, and Janie Muckelroy and husband George of Timpson; brothers Buddy Adkison and wife Judy of Timpson, and Ron Adkison and wife Leslie of Henderson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

He also leaves behind golfing buddies Bobby Reyes and Mike Andress, who often joined he and brother Buddy on the course.

He leaves behind a legacy that far surpasses his Earthly life. He was unique and one of a kind. Cotton was loved by many.
