Martha Garrett Obituary

Funeral services for Martha Lou Garrett, 90, of Garrison will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Garrison Funeral Home with Shak Arrington officiating.  Interment will follow at Cold Springs Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5:00pm – 7:00pm on Friday, November 12, 2021 at Garrison Funeral Home.  Mrs. Garrett passed away on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in Garrison.

Martha Lou Carroll was born on February 1, 1931, the daughter of Delphia Eugene and Annie Lee Shipp Carroll and raised in the only place she ever called home…Garrison, Texas.  Her roots run deep in “The Oldest Town in Texas” and as a proud 1947 graduate, she was a devoted Bulldog.  Martha happily remained here until she left her earthly home for the perfect place made for her in Heaven.  If you asked her, Martha would tell you Garrison was the closest thing you could get to Heaven.

In 1948, she and Tommie Garrett were joined in marriage.  They spent an almost perfect 50 years together and raised their children with the greatest of values.  Martha Lou loved Tommie without regrets and without boundaries and was proud to call him her husband.  She was a supporter to everyone around her, no matter what they were attempting to accomplish.  Family was very important and she strived to be the wife, mother, grandmother and friend that everyone needed.  Her love of children led her to being “Lou Lou” to many young-uns who spent years in her home as she kept them daily.  She even found the time to share her heart with “Foster Grandparents”, an organization where she was able to mentor and volunteer with children at local schools.  She was also an incredible special aunt to her beloved nieces and nephews.  Martha, although constantly putting Jesus and her family above all else, found immense joy in cooking.  She was fantastic at it and never failed to share her favorite recipes with anyone who asked. She enjoyed playing 42 and Skip-Bo and was especially admired for her beautiful flower gardens.  When her favorite Texas teams were playing, (Astros and Cowboys of course) she would be found cheering them on as often as she could.  With Tommie, traveling was the one thing that took them away from all the hustle and bustle of life itself.  They saw many places together and made lasting memories that they both dearly cherished.  She will be missed by her precious children and grandchildren but her devotion and love of all those around her will forever be remembered.

Martha Lou is survived by her children, Dale Garrett and wife, Sharon of Mineral Wells, Lennie Sawyer and husband, Buz of Livingston, Felecia Lloyd and husband, George of Garrison and Carrie Faulkner and husband, David of Humble; grandchildren, Matthew Garrett & wife Jessica of Fort Worth, Stephen Garrett and wife, Kati of Austin, Garrett Driver and wife, Allison of Humble and Christopher Lloyd of Garrison; great grandchildren, Logan Bell-Johnson, Morgan Garrett, Hazel Garrett, Charlie Garrett, Halden Driver and future baby boy Driver; sister, Opaline Barnhart of Nacogdoches; sister-in-law, Eva Carroll of Nacogdoches; numerous nieces and nephews; her devoted angel-on-earth, Jan Holmes as well as her beloved dog, Lance.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Garrett, Stephen Garrett, Garrett Driver, Christopher Lloyd, Morgan Garrett, Logan Bell-Johnson and Roger Carroll.
