Margaret Jo Spivey

Funeral service for Margaret Weatherly Spivey, 95, of Garrison will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at Garrison Funeral Home with Bro. Preston Weatherly and Bro. Darrell Pollard officiating.  Interment will follow at Caledonia Cemetery in Shelby County.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:30-2:30 at Garrison Funeral Home.

Alongside her 11 siblings, Margaret was raised to know the value of a dollar and a hard days work.  She and her siblings learned the importance of family from wonderful parents whose work ethic and morals left a lasting legacy.  Margaret met and married the love of her life,  Jim Young Spivey and together, they lived a blessed life with their boys.  Margaret made sure her boys and husband were well taken care of and when grandchildren came along, they were loved just as much.  She spent many hours in the kitchen doing what she loved.  She always enjoyed her garden and would can most everything she grew.  Purple hull peas and black crowders were favorites.  However, she most often found herself making butter with the milk from her cows.  Her farm living, complete with cattle, chickens and a dairy barn, allowed her to be very efficient in the kitchen and also for her little business of selling her butter.  Folks bought it so much that she often had to turn down orders.  Her doctor loved it so much that she was allowed medical care in exchange for her famous butter!  When she had time, Margaret would quilt.  Her family was fortunate enough to all receive one of her beautiful works of art.  Margaret loved her Lord and Savior and read her bible devoting until her health no longer allowed it.  She was a member of Arlam Baptist Church.

Margaret is survived by her sons, Fred Spivey & wife, Jenny of Mt. Enterprise and John Spivey & Pate of Longview; grandchildren, Scott Spivey & wife, Sarah of Garrison, Jason Spivey & wife, Jerri of Henderson, Robby Spivey & wife, Casie of Spring Hill and Shelly Mills & husband, Zach of Mt. Enterprise; great grandchildren, Caroline, Dayni, Cade, Luke, Tyler, Saydi, Rylyn, Tinsley and Landon; and 1 great great granddaughter, Haven.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Young Spivey; son, Fleming Spivey and 11 siblings.
