Obituary

James Rann Stewart, 91, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away on May 4, 2023, in Lufkin, Texas. He was born on December 11, 1931, in Joaquin, Texas, to the late Julian Everett and Johnnie (Williams) Stewart. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Garrison Funeral Home, Garrison, Texas.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Garrison Funeral Home in Garrison, Texas.

James Rann “Bud" Stewart was born and raised in Joaquin, Texas. He took his first job working on a pipeline with his uncle Riley Williams. Then went on to join the Air Force where he served as an aerospace medical technician. He met and married Erika Fleming while stationed at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio. Eventually they returned and settled in East Texas/ Nacogdoches, Tx., and Bud enrolled at SFA. He obtained a Bachelor’s (Smith Hughes) degree to bring Ag science to rural areas, and a Masters degree in Secondary school Administration. His career pursuits also included teaching, serving with U.S. customs and immigration, and poultry inspector with the U.S.D.A.

Until unable to do so, Bud enjoyed hunting with his boys in the Sabine, Angelina and Davy Crockett National Forests. He also enjoyed traveling to spend time with family. He cherished his sisters very much and looked forward to the trips to visit. In his latter years he took great pleasure in having long conversations with his children, passing along stories and giving advice.

Living survivors include: Sisters, Merle Butler and Marcel Register; children, Karen Stephenson (and her husband Brad), James “Bubba” Stewart, John “JC” Stewart (and wife Suzie), and Karl E. Stewart (and wife Nelda); grandchildren; Valerie Brown, Micelle Stephenson, Matthew Becher, Erika Stone, Karen Meredith and Karl Jr. Stewart, Hanah Marie Stewart, and three bonus grandchildren, Noel, Jacob and Murrae; Seven great grandchildren, and thirteen bonus great grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jo Ann Creech and Charlsie Faye Stewart.
