Georgia Beard Obituary
Georgia Beard, 85, of Garrison, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2021, in Garrison, Texas. She was born in Garrison, Texas on October 22, 1935 to the late Walter and Eva (Conway) Curry. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 11, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Garrison with Bro. John McGuire and Bro. Gerald Edwards officiating. Interment will follow at Cold Spring Cemetery in Garrison.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 PM till 2:00 PM on Friday, June 11, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Garrison.
Georgia was born and raised in Garrison. She met and married John Welch when they were young. They had two wonderful children together and loved them dearly. Unfortunately, John Welch was met with an untimely death early in his life. They were married 25 years when the Lord called him home. She later met and married John Russ. He helped to raise Don and Debbie and loved Georgia until his unexpected death. They were married for 12 years when he was called home. Georgia’s most recent husband was Devant Beard. They enjoyed spending time together for another 12 years before he was called home to be with the Lord.
Georgia’s pride and joy was her family, especially her grands. She loved to cook and would use any occasion just to have her family present. She enjoyed working in her yard and fishing with Devant. Just being with her friends was a blessing. Georgia and John Welch owned and operated Welch Grocery and later Garrison Coffee Shop.
Georgia served on the Garrison City Council, and she even served as Mayor pro tem for some time. She was precinct chair #15 for Nacogdoches County Republican Party. Georgia was proud to be a charter member of Garrison Heritage Society. She was also a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Garrison. She was proud to be from Garrison and was honored to serve her town and community in many ways.
Georgia is survived by her son, Don Welch and wife, Kim; her daughter, Deborah Langford and husband, Joe; sister, Joyce Tidwell and husband, Mack; grandchildren, Brad Langford, Brent Langford, Natalie Porterfield, and Elliott Welch; great-grandchildren, Brett Langford, Addison Langford, Brielle Langford, Caleb Porterfield, and Brazos Manley; and sister-in-law, Ludy Curry.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Eva Curry; her husbands, John Welch, John Russ, and Devant Beard; brothers, Travis Curry and Harvey Curry; sisters, Doris Barrett, Elsie Adams, and Ruby Henderson; and sister-in-law, Ruby Curry.
