Edward Perley Obituary

Graveside service for Edward Perley, 82, of Garrison will be held at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 at Caledonia Cemetery, with Bro. Darrell Pollard officiating.

Mr. Perley passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019 in Nacogdoches. He was born on November 12, 1936 in West Plains, Missouri.

In 1947 Edward and his family moved from Missouri to Texas where they ended up in Center. He attended Center High School for several years. While living there he worked at the movie theater where he was proud to run the projector for some time. A new adventure took him to California where he began work at Aeroquip as a machinist. He was part of the team responsible for building the equipment that brought the moon rocks back into earth. After several years there he decided to come back to the East Texas area where he ended up in Garrison. Along with his cousin they started a television repair shop. Due to changing technology he had to give that up and decided to begin work, once again as a machinist, now for Lufkin Industries. After just a few months due to his knowledge and excellent work ethic he became the #1 machinist there. He spent over 19 years at Lufkin Industries from where he retired.

In his free time, he could be found tending to his dogs, whom he loved like family, and mowing his grass, everyone in the area knew him for his perfectly trimmed lawn. On some weekends he would take a short trip to Shreveport where he enjoyed the horse races. And on his later years he was the Bingo caller at the nursing home. Edward loved our Lord and Savior, he was a member at Arlam Baptist Church for many many years, until he could not attend anymore. He spent a lot of his time studying the bible and had a vast knowledge of it.

Mr. Perley is survived by his sons: Andrew Perley of Garrison, and Ronald Dean Perley and wife, Tammy of Hawthorne, California; brother, Herbert E. Perley and wife, Jo-Nell of Garrison; former daughter-in-law, Jackie Perley; grandchildren: Evan, Courtney, Maci, Michelle, Crystal, and Brian; nephew, David Perley and wife, Donna and family of Argyle, TX; niece, Glynda and husband, Kenneth Smith and family of Marietta, Georgia, along with other family and close friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John Alfonso Perley and Lola Wilkerson Perley Sears.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School, to The Wounded Warriors Project and to Gideons International.
