Donna was born and raised in her beloved East Texas, where she called Garrison her home. She was the daughter of Homer and Mary Williams Kimbrough. She was the ultimate Garrison Bulldog fan, enjoying the Battle of The Attoyac every year, especially when the Dog’s took the victory! Donna’s childhood was filled with many memories of which her parents were responsible for. She loved her mamma and daddy so much and was honored to have been able to care for them in their last days. As a child, she was taught the values of being a hard-working, independent woman with strong morals and ethics. Her love of family and her devotion to those around her was gained through the loving teachings of her parents. Donna raised her children with these exact principles in mind. She loved them endlessly and without boundaries. Her children and her friends and family were of utmost importance to her. She enjoyed every minute she had with them.
Every chance she got, Donna could be found fishing in her favorite spots which included Naconiche Creek (before there was a lake) and the “Golden Drain”. Her secret fishing hole remained just that…a secret to most folks. She enjoyed target shooting and could drive a nail into a tree with a .22! When she was able, she would talk her friend, James Lee, into heading to the boats for a spell. She always relished in the fact that she was lucky when it came to winning with the scratch-offs she would purchase.
Her children will forever remember that mamma’s chicken and dumplings, chocolate pies, homemade biscuits and sugar cookies were the best around. Donna’s best treasures were found in her grandchildren and being called “Granny” was the one name she loved most!
Her wit and charm, her smile and her giving nature will carry on in the hearts of her children and others close to her. However, her love and devotion to those around her will be the most important thing they will remember.
Donna is survived by her children, Donnie Austin and wife, LeeAnn of Central Heights, Tanya Byley Tatum and husband, Greg of Garrison and Teresa Deloney and Wayne Black of Onalaska; grandchildren, Cassie Ware, Jake Austin, and Gabrielle Austin; great grandson, Noah Dossey Carter; sister, Virginia Brandon and husband Coot of Nacogdoches; sister-in-law, Dora Lee Kimbrough of Nacogdoches; and nieces and nephews, Kelly and Dana Murray, Lee Ann and Gordon Holley, Michael and Heather Kimbrough and Darrell Brandon.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Charlsie Williams Kimbrough; husband, Walter Phillips; and brother, J.L. Kimbrough.
Pallbearers will be Jake Austin, Michael Kimbrough, Dana Murray, Rex Williams, Donald Ray Williams, and Jason Case. Honorary pallbearers will be Greg Tatum, Noah Carter, Coot Brandon and Darrell Brandon.
