Obituary

Betty Jean (Wallace) Thomson, 93, of Garrison, Texas, passed away on July 31, 2023, in Garrison, Texas. She was born on August 27, 1929, in East Chicago, Indiana to the late Gilbert and Ruby (Mullens) Wallace. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, August 4, 2023, at Garrison Methodist Church. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Garrison, Texas.

A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm Friday, August 4, 2023, at Garrison Methodist Church.

Betty was raised in Kentucky and Mt. Vernon, Illinois. She attended high school at Mt. Vernon High School where she met her husband, Richard. They were married on August 27, 1948, and enjoyed 62 years together before his passing. During those years they built a family together, having two children, Scot and Gail. Betty gained a few nicknames through the years; Richard called her Smokie after his cocker spaniel dog and her son-in-law, Jeff, lovingly called her Betty Boop. Betty had many hobbies including playing bridge and baking, but her greatest hobby of all was her grandchildren. She loved them with all she had. She enjoyed many activities such as dancing and playing cards. Betty had a love of antiques and would spend hours hunting for just the right piece. She also got joy from traveling and had many adventures in her rich full life. Betty was a charter member of the Heritage Society in Garrison and the Garrison Methodist Bridge Club. She was also the friendly face that greeted people at Garrison Methodist Church and was involved in PAM organization there. Betty was the best mom anyone could have; her children and grandchildren were very lucky to have her for the many years she was here. She will be greatly missed, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Gail Crews and husband, Jeff; son, Scot Thomson and wife, Leslie; grandchildren, Molly Crews, Blair Thomson, Ashley Houck and husband, Justin, and Cari Thomson; great-grandchildren, Alex Houck, Grace Houck, and Samuel Houck; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard R. Thomson; parents, Gilbert and Ruby Wallace; sister, Helen Eckert; niece, Gilda McBee; and nephew, Gil Eckert.

Serving as pallbearers will be Stephen Alders, Robert Bell, Rusty Cook, Gus Irwin, Bill Pierce, and Justin Houck.
