Bennie Jean Stanaland, 89, of Garrison, Texas, passed away on August 16, 2022, in Garrison, Texas. Bennie was born on November 26, 1932, to the parents Sam Hartt, and Bell “Boatman” Hartt, in Garrison, Texas. She grew up in the small town of Garrison and obtained her high school diploma there. She soon became one in marriage to her best friend, and husband A.W. Bill Stanaland on October 17, 1953, and had a loving 68 years together until his passing on April 25, 2022. In her adult life, Bennie spent most of it as a caretaker and homemaker trying to give her special needs son the most normal life he could live. Her children recall many times when she would prepare special treats for them after school or teach them valuable life skills from her favorite hobby of canning. Bennie and A.W. Bill would frequently attend local farmers’ markets and buy the top notch produce to preserve and can. If there was a way, Bennie and Bill were going to find a way to can it and save it for a rainy day. These canned goods weren’t only for her family, but also her close friends. If you got canned jams or jellies from her, you know you were on Bennie’s good side. Especially in her older years, Bennie gave away many canned goods and was an expert in the craft.
Bennie is survived by her children, Kathryn Katzenberger, Morris Neal (Jayne) Stanaland and Sam (Donna) Stanaland; grandchildren, Bobby Katzenberger, Jeremy Katzenberger, Kris Katzenberger, Ashley Canty, Austin Stanaland, Emily Jones, Logan Stanaland, and Travis Stanaland; great-grandchildren, Conner Katzenberger, Jaxon Katzenberger, Eli Katzenberger, Aria Katzenberger, Merit Jones, Eva Jones, and Jodie Stanaland.
She is preceded by her husband, Bill Stanaland; son George Donald Stanaland; and parents, Samuel Hartt and Lillie Bell (Boatman) Hartt.
Serving as pallbearers are Jeremy Katzenberger, Kris Katzenberger, Logan Stanaland, Travis Stanaland, Drew Canty, and Taylor Jones. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Austin Stanaland, and Bobby Katzenberger.
