William Austin Greer, Sr.

Funeral services for William Austin Greer, Sr., 76, of Garrison, Texas, will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Garrison Funeral Home, Garrison, Texas officiated by Bro. Wayne Stewart. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Garrison, Texas. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Garrison Funeral Home, Garrison, Texas. Mr. Greer passed away on October 4, 2023, in Jasper, Texas. He was born on December 20, 1946, in Houston, Texas to the late Carl and Evelyn (Burdeshaw) Greer. 

Bill was a simple man who loved the life he lived.  His absolute dedication to his family was beyond words.  He loved his children and grandchildren without boundaries and was always the one to call when you needed a helping hand. Bill’s life was not always perfect, but he surely made it through, doing the best he could.  He was humble and liked things to be uncomplicated.  He was giving and loyal, fun and encouraging and sometimes….a bit stubborn!  Even through his rough edges and stubborn nature, he was always the one who gave from his heart. 

Bill joined the United States Army in 1966 after graduating from Sam Houston High School.  He met married Mary L. Martin and from their union, they had two children, William A. “Billy”, Jr and Lana.  Bill loved them so much.  He was happy when they were happy.   His grandchildren held a special place in his heart as well.  Bill was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing more than the average person.  He made wonderful memories with the grandkids and his friends while on the water. 

Bill spent his adult years working as a contract draftsman for many large oil companies.  This afforded him the ability to be outside while he made money.  He loved that.  He was also fortunate enough to travel to Venezuela, something he was always proud of.

Bill is survived by his children, Billy Greer & wife, Deanna and Lana Greer Sands & husband, Owen; Grandchildren, Tyler Greer, Colton Greer & wife, Sidney, Hunter McNeal & husband, Jacob, Megan Meadows & husband, Will, Mark Dziedzic & wife, Vivian, Bailey Sands & wife, Rebecca and Rylan Sands; great grandchildren, Brooklynn Greer, Titan Greer, Braxton Greer, Langston McNeal, Kayleigh Dziedzic, Hunter Meadows, Alexis Meadows, Destin Meadows, Faye Meadows and Alexandria Sands as well as numerous nieces and nephews he loved dearly.  He was also happy to be welcoming 2 additional great grandchildren very soon!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl & Evelyn Greer and siblings, Annette Kreitz & husband, Al, Joyce Kelley & husband, Wayne and Richard Greer.
