Tutts Stoddard, 80, of Garrison, Texas, passed away on December 21, 2023, in Garrison, Texas. He was born on January 29, 1943, in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late A.B. and Charlsey (Hartt) Stoddard. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Holly Springs Baptist Church with Bobby Smith and Clint Williams officiating and Donald Hubbard leading music. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Garrison, Texas. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Holly Springs Baptist Church.
Tutts graduated from Garrison High School in 1961. He continued his education at SFA and received his degree in 1968. Following graduation, he taught and coached at GHS in the late 60s before entering the business world. He was a partner in H&H Hardware, the owner of Spencer’s Grocery and Stoddard Farm Supply while operating a chicken farm. Tutts eventually retired from the US Postal Service where he worked as a rural carrier and clerk.
Tutts lived a full, active life serving his community. He was a member of the original Garrison EMTs, Garrison Fire Department, Lion’s Club, and was the official time clock man for many years for the Garrison Bulldogs. Tutts served several terms on the Garrison city council as well as Mayor for the city of Garrison. He served 2 years in the Texas National Guard and was a member of Garrison’s Flying Club and actually accomplished flying solo. Tutts also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and for many years was an active bowler.
Tutts loved sports of all kinds and coached summer league baseball for many years. He took pride in coaching and was privileged to coach his son, Spencer, then later, his grandson, Logan. Tutts was a proud Bulldog where he played all sports and later attended almost every game near and far. He was FOREVER A BULLDOG!
Tutts is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Judy Jones Stoddard; son, Spence Stoddard of Longview; grandsons, Logan Stoddard of New Caney and Cooper Stoddard of Lake of the Pines; and brother, Al Stoddard and wife, Mildred of Huntington.
He is preceded in death by his parents, A.B. and Charlsey Harrt Stoddard; sister, Dana Stoddard; and brother, Herman (Snooky) Stoddard.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Garrison Nursing Home and their staff. They have been amazing the last 6 months while he was in their care.
Serving as pallbearers will be Don Welch, Arnie Kelley, DJ Lunsford, Bart Reneau, Brad Honea, and Jeff Elliott. Honorary pallbearers are Rusty Cook, Lamar (Rooster) Jones, Buddy Reneau, and Bozy Adams.
